Beauty of Nature

An Introduction –

When nature puts up a show, all you gotta do is stand, stare and admire. Fall is one such phenomenon. Experiencing fall, up close and personal, this year has been beautiful. Back in India, which is a tropical country, we don’t see “fall”. Hence, all these lovely colors certainly brightened things up in the murky Autumn sky. There is a nip in the air, the weather is getting cooler and cooler and the sun rarely shines these days. So when I decided to visit Beatrixpark or Prinses Beatrixpark, I knew this would be the last opportunity of capturing the amazing fall colors. And we shouldn’t waste opportunities, right?

Fall colors in Beatrixpark

One of the largest urban “parks” in Europe, the Amsterdamse Bos is, in all senses, an enigmatic forest. Read all about this oasis of green peace and serenity here.

About Beatrixpark –

One of the oldest parks in Amsterdam, Beatrixpark is nice for walking, running, or cycling. Pretty and compact, much on the lines of a neighborhood park, this place was built around 1938.

The lovely Fall colors in Beatrixpark

The park is located in the Prinses Irenebuurt, straddled between the highway A10, Diepenbrockstraat and Beethovenstraat. Reaching the park is super easy. Take any bus or train to Amsterdam-Zuid and walk over to the park. The route to the park is peaceful and lovely. You might have a brush with a cute little dog like we did. Or maybe find lots of people jogging and running.

Walking trails in the Beatrixpark

Beatrixpark is a fabulous little park in the bustling area of south Amsterdam, providing the much craved green oasis.

Why Should You Visit Beatrixpark?

There are numerous plants that were originally showcased in the Floriade of 1972. The trees are marked and you can easily identify the ‘winning’ plants from the Floriade.

There are many small pavilions where a number of people carry out their exercise routines. It’s quite fun to see the activities and even take part in them.

So in love with these fall colors

What I love about some of the “parks” in the Netherlands is that they are essentially forests. Here is a shining example, Clingendael in Den Haag. Read all about it, here.

The beautiful swimming and paddling pool is one of the top attractions. While the pool itself is lovely, what makes it prettier is the sculptures of the mermaid along with a couple of fish rising from above the waters. Children would love a splash in this during the summertime.

Then there is the Artsenijhof, which is a medicinal herbs courtyard. It is characterized by the gate which has two lion sculptures on either side.

Gorgeous fall colours and such tranquility in Beatrixpark

Another thing that impressed me was the myriad statues placed at various locations of the park. There is a gorgeous feathered sculpture made of steel in the middle of a lush green field. Then there is a playful dog sculpture which was like a dog doing yoga! There are others also, including a group of penguins, women etc. These arty elements add to the charm of the park.

Chasing Fall colors in Beatrixpark –

My agenda of going to this amazing park was not to exercise or cycle. I wanted to see the last of the fall colours, this season. So, as per the plan, I walked along every side of the park capturing fall colours and admiring them. The trees with their varying shades of yellow, orange, red and brown looked so ethereal. Even though the sun was not bright and shining, the colors made up for that.

Strolling along beautiful colors and amazing trees

Plus we saw lots of birds, merrily swimming in the water bodies or flying from one tree to another and even running around. We love walking around greenery and lakes, everything looks so peaceful and fabulous. I am sure, we all need that dose of greenery and serenity in our daily lives. And what can be better than finding a cute little park right in the middle of a busy bustling part of the city.

Wrapping Up for the Day –

With that I wrap up today’s blog and leave you with some clicks from the day. I hope I have done justice to the gorgeous fall colours. They were impressive.
